Working with Vita Safety is just like having a team of people in our business that are responsible for health and safety. They keep us regularly updated on changes to regulations and help us develop appropriate processes to maintain our compliance and protect our workforce. They provide that real conscience, keeping us fully up to date through an annual audit for all our sites and a 6-weekly continuous improvement call.

Our entire workforce is engaged with health and safety. We don’t have many major issues because people are aware of how important health and safety is to us, but if there is ever an issue, Vita Safety really do work in partnership with the site to address it, rectify it and avoid it happening in the future.

They also look after everything from a health and safety training point of view. This includes IOSH leadership training and coaching to ensure health and safety is communicated and engaged with across the business. They look after all our Health and Safety Officer training, as well as training on specialist areas such hand arm vibration, for our workshops. All their training is very flexible, practical and delivered in away to truly engage the audience.

Allied Milling and Baking

In Allied Milling and Baking we are proud of our ‘Safety First’ programme. This has delivered a significant improvement in health and safety performance; culture change as well as accident reduction and reliant on ‘ownership’ in the line and in operating teams.

We worked with Ian Hutchings from Vita Safety to produce a top line assessment of performance and culture across milling and baking operations. The findings were presented to the Board and key leadership group at our annual H & S conference. This included an interactive ‘planning workshop’, facilitated by Ian, which helped us refine our strategic plan and develop our tactical plan for the following year. The whole package, from research visits to delivery of the report and conference presentation, was well received.

We have an integrated approach to health and safety in operations and an experienced in house health and safety team helping with delivery of the plan.We do not want or need external consultants to provide expensive ‘off the shelf’ corporate solutions. What we do need, on occasions, is someone to take a ‘snapshot’ of what we are doing and provide insight to help take us to the next level of performance.

Vita Safety had the credentials and insight, borne of experience, to help us do just that; they worked to our requirements for this project, were direct, flexible and pragmatic in their approach and made an influential contribution to our planning process, for which we were grateful.

We have had the pleasure of working with John Boyle for the first time on our event, Prom Xtra in North Wales. From planning stages to delivering the final event he was very professional and attentive. He was always in contact to see how we were getting on and provided templates for us to work from to ensure our health and safety documentation included all the relevant information. He was also present at the event to inspect all health and safety paperwork provided by contractors and he advised on all incidents to ensure the right decision was taken or measure put in place.

John wrote and designed the health and safety element of the course, which included an exam, and held innovative and engaging workshops with the students.

Vanderlande Industries were looking for organisations to complement our internal resources and to work with us on a behavioural change programme. Having outlined our requirements we undertook a detailed review of several companies and Vita were chosen based on their open and flexible approach and ability to engage with our team at all levels within the organisation. We had a collaborative approach to developing the training package which allowed discussion and integration of ideas and Vita encouraged our active involvement allowing us maintain ownership over the programme to be delivered. We also had another company working with us on a high profile launch event and Vita actively engaged with this company to ensure that the whole programme was joined up.

Our training was focussed on managers and supervisors and it was important to us that our team felt able to discuss issues openly and establish personal plans for improvement that recognised their individuality and current point on the behavioural safety journey. Ian and John established a good rapport with the team and positive feedback has been provided by our managers and supervisors which highlighted the thought provoking approach taken and the enthusiasm of even the most reluctant participants to actively engage with their teams to drive a positive safety culture.
