Health and Safety Advisor

Summary

Salary: £43k + £4k car allowance

Location: Home based – within one hour commute of Manchester

The Health and Safety Advisor is accountable to the Managing Director or appointed Line Manager and performs a business critical operational role. The primary elements of the role include providing a wide range of services to our customer base. The aim of the role is the delivery of high quality consultancy services for our customers.

The Advisor role is a key step towards the role of Consultant and beyond in the Vita Safety development programme.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The Advisor will undertake the following tasks:

  • Fire risk assessments (if qualified and evidenced as competent to do so)
  • Compliance and health and safety management system audits
  • Risk assessments
  • Training course development and delivery
  • Health and safety advice
  • Coaching and supporting clients
  • Writing reports, policies and procedures
  • Support Consultants with the creation of policies and other management system documents.
  • Desk top research, advising clients and supporting the Consultants with up to date information and guidance on health and safety regulation and practice.
  • Assist with the company quality management system and internal audits.
  • Attend regular meetings (face to face/online) with the consultancy team and the Managing Director to report on customer relationship management and project performance.
  • Keep quality, contractual and project delivery records up to date in the company SharePoint (or other document management system) at all times.
  • Follow and comply with all Vita Safety policies and procedures and quality management system requirements.

 

Reporting and liaison

The Advisor is accountable to the Managing Director or appointed line manager for delivery against their personal action plan and any agreed company performance targets.  These are set with their full involvement and support of the business. The Advisor is responsible for ensuring all business administration and systems are kept up to date and accurate client records kept on the company CRM system in compliance with our quality management system.  An essential part of this role is supporting and being proactive as a team member.

 

Performance measurement

Performance in the role will be discussed on an ongoing basis. The Advisor is expected to be capable of and have a clear career plan with Vita Safety, to support progression to CertIOSH membership of IOSH or equivalent level 6 qualification.

 

Training and development

Vita Safety’s most important asset is its people; therefore, a personal development plan will be agreed , as well as personal and team training and development planned in order to ensure that the company continually provides market leading services.

In order to progress, Vita Safety will commit to a budget for progression and support in this role and development to be a Consultant and beyond, following the satisfactory completion of the probationary period.

Health and Safety Consultant

Summary

Salary: £52k + £4k car allowance

Summary

The Health and Safety (The Consultant) is accountable to their line manager and performs a business critical operational role.  The primary elements of the role include providing a wide range of services to our client base and will include the delivery of high quality consultancy services and training for our customers.

 

The Consultant develops and delivers a broad range of services across the Vita Safety client base, which ranges from SMEs to large multiple site national organisations.  The contract of employment refers to the specific agreed requirements of the role, supplemented by this role description.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The Consultant will undertake the following tasks:

  • Full project consultancy delivery from initial needs assessment to full service execution, including:
    • Fire risk assessments (if qualified and competent to do so through external membership such as IFSM / IFE or equivalent).
    • Property/landlord general risk assessments
    • Compliance and health and safety management system audits
    • Management reviews benchmarking against PDCA Cycle / ISO 45001
    • Risk assessments
    • Training course development and delivery
    • Providing health and safety advice and guidance
    • Coaching and supporting customers
    • Writing reports, policies and procedures
  • Visits to potential and current clients and the preparation and input into the writing of consultancy service proposals.
  • Develop existing client relationships through quarterly catch up calls and identify future revenue streams to add value to current project services.
  • Attend regular meetings (face to face/online) with Directors and the consultancy team to report on client relationship management and project performance.
  • Further tasks as required to develop the business as determined by the line manager.
  • Keep quality, contractual and project delivery records up to date in the company SharePoint (or other document management system) and other software up to date at all times and ensure that all documents are backed up in OneDrive/Sharepoint (or other document management system) at all times.
  • Follow and comply with all Vita Safety policies and procedures and quality management system requirements.

The Consultant is accountable to the Managing Director for delivery against their personal action plan and any agreed company performance targets.  These are set with their full involvement and support of the business.  The Consultant is responsible for ensuring all business administration and systems are kept up to date and accurate client records kept within SharePoint and other systems. An essential part of this role is supporting and being proactive as a team member.

Person Specification 

Essential

  • Diploma-level (Level 6) qualification in Health and Safety.

  • Near-Chartered (CertIOSH) or working towards CMIOSH.

  • Minimum five years’ experience in a consultancy role across multiple sectors.

  • Strong experience in policy development, risk assessment, training and management system auditing.

  • Proven ability to produce high-quality reports and reviews.

  • Experience in fire and property risk management.

  • Confident IT user (MS Office, Teams/Zoom).

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and organisational skills.

  • Able to work independently and as part of a small team.

  • Shares Vita Safety’s values – responsive, pragmatic, professional and supportive.

Desirable

  • Degree-level qualification in Health and Safety.

  • Chartered (CMIOSH) status.

  • Fire risk assessment qualification and membership of IFSM/IFE or equivalent.

  • ISO 45001 and/or ISO 9001 Auditor qualification.

  • Level 3 training qualification or IOSH Train the Trainer.

  • Experience in property, education, manufacturing, retail, logistics, or charity sectors.

  • Knowledge of CDM 2015 and managing remote worker risks.

  • Experience leading or supporting medium/large consultancy projects.
